Import Player Billy Rogers Commits to the Jacksonville Axemen for 2016
Australian Billy Rogers is originally from Morven, Queensland and has played some of the highest level Rugby League there is. He has represented several teams in the Queensland Cup competition including the Norths Devils & the Melbourne Storm in their Under 20s (U20s) program in 2009 as well as the Storm’s New South Wales Cup squad in 2010. Continuing to play in the New South Wales Cup (NSW) competition with the Wentworthville Magpies and ultimately playing for the professional NRL club, the Parramatta Eels.
Most recently, Rogers has played with the Northern Outlaws and the Gympie Devils is the Sunshine Coast Rugby League Competition, but jumped at the chance to come to the US and play for the Jacksonville Axemen.
“I’ve been aware of the Axemen and the USA Rugby League competition for a number of years and always followed the results of the season” says Rogers. “I have heard only positive things about the Axemen, so when the club showed interest in me playing for them in 2016, I didn’t hesitate.”
Throughout his 20 years of playing rugby league, this will be the first time Rogers has played the game in another country. “This season will be a chance for me to complete a career long goal of playing footy overseas and I can’t wait to get to Jax and meet all of my new team mates and start training together.”
“Rugby League is a game where you never stop learning and 2016 will be a great year to learn about the way footy is played in the USA and to pass on some of my experience and enthusiasm to the Axemen.”
The Axemen are excited to welcome Rogers to Jacksonville when he arrives for training camp in May and are looking forward to seeing him on the field this season.
