The opening quarter saw the Axemen have their way with the Knights by posting 2 trys to nil and make the scoreline 12 to 0 at the first break. The second half was much the same as the Axemen added 2 more trys and for most of the time defended with great passion. New York did manage to find their footing briefly that allowed them to get over the line and go into the midway break with the scoreline 22 to 6.
The Axemen returned for the second half and very quickly kept the scoreboard ticking over by crossing the line under the posts to make the lead 28 to 6. However a few lapses in concentration and some clever footwork let the visitors in for 2 trys late in the game to narrow the margin to 28 to 18 with about 10 minutes to go.
Both teams threw everything they had at each other to try and find a gap in the defense and defensive line did all they could to lay some bone crunching hits in retaliation. With a minute to go New York found themselves pressuring the Axemen line and it looked as if they may grab a late try but the defense found just enough to stop the onslaught to regather possession and then run 5 safe plays as the clock wound down.
The win puts the Axemen at the top of the ladder and they will now travel to New Haven CT to take on the unbeaten Warriors on June 27.
