The Jacksonville Axemen are looking for two local artists to sing the National Anthem during the USA Rugby League Southern Conference Championship, and National Championship Games.
The Axemen are going to run a fan-based voting system to give two local artists the opportunity to perform the National Anthem live, prior to August 2 and August 23 games. “Sports are not the only pioneering entertainment that is growing in Jacksonville”, said team co-owner Spinner Howland. “There are countless singers, bands and vocalists who are from Jacksonville, and if we can provide a small facet of our event to give them a chance to be highlighted for a moment, then why not. Just like pioneering sports operators, these people dedicate thousands of selfless unpaid hours pursuing their dream.”
The invitation to be considered is very simple, and the Axemen will narrow the entry down to FIVE finalists and then let the fans decide the two winners in an online vote. The runner-up will sing the National Anthem LIVE at the start of the USA Rugby League Southern Conference Championship Game on August 2nd at UNF, and the winner will do the same at the National Championship Game on August 23rd.
In addition to the On-line and Social Media support the Axemen will give the artists who apply, the two winners will be promoted as the Official Featured Performer at the respective games. They will also be able to set up their own promotion booth at the event, interact with fans, and use the game to promote their own upcoming performances, CD’s sales, or other promotional materials.
The opportunity is open to all SINGERS and BANDS, and the criteria is:
- Be from the Jacksonville Area
- Must be pursuing an opportunity in the music/performer industry
- Cannot have any performance restrictions due to current agent, manager or label partnerships/contracts
- Obviously be available on August 2 and 23
- Submit a link to a video of YOU performing the STAR SPANGLED BANNER (in a similar way to how you intend to perform during the game) to spinner@jaxaxe.com
Deadline for submission is Sunday July 20. The Axemen will then narrow the field to 5 and use an online poll to allow fans to pick the two winners, who will be announced July 27.
